How To Create Products
Previously we explained how to use eBay’s resources to determine how well your product will sell. Let’s assume you’ve found a good product idea. Now have to create and/or acquire it. Just as there are many avenues for sourcing physical products to offer on eBay, there are also various ways to “source” your info products.
We’ll start here with a list of the 5 main methods, and then go into more detail of the pros and cons for one of them. So, here are the five main sources:
- Create the products yourself
- Hire Ghostwriters or Freelancers to create your products
- Obtain information that’s in the Public Domain
- Obtain resale rights to other people’s products
- Promote other people’s products as an affiliate
Now let’s get into the details of Method 1.
Method 1: Create Products Yourself
Pros:
- You have complete control over the content of your products
- Provides a unique product that no one else is selling (unless you grant resale rights)
- As a creator and copyright holder, you are protected from scams your competitors might use to shut you down.
- Provides the opportunity for Joint Ventures and the ability to set up your own affiliate program
- As the product creator, you are seen as an expert in the eyes of your customers.
Cons:
- Creating your own products can be somewhat time consuming
- Creating eBooks may be difficult if you aren’t a good writer (There are ways around this that we’ll show you)
In his “Info Millions” course, Bob Serling points out that the ideal product meets the following three criteria:
- Control - You must either own all rights to your product outright, or you must have a contract that guarantees you exclusive rights.
- High Markup - Ideally you want to sell your product for a minimum of 10 times what it costs to produce.
- Ease Of Distribution - If you can’t pack and ship a product easily and inexpensively, you don’t really have a business.
It’s easy to see that info products possess all of these attributes. Creating them yourself does take time and may require more effort, but it is the absolute best way to be in command of item #1 - Control.
In The Auction Profit Machine we cover each of the remaining product development methods in great detail. We discuss the pros and cons of each and give you the knowledge to keep from getting burned when having product created for you. We provide several resources and tools (many of them free) to help you along the way.
